3 Easy Tips For Air Conditioner Maintenance

1. Clean The Surroundings Area of the Unit

Remove the fan cage from the exterior compressor/condenser using a wrench or a screwdriver. Once you remove the fasteners, lift the fan grill or cage to remove debris and leaves from the interior. You can use a vacuum to remove the outside dirt or debris from your compressor. You can also use a fin cleaning spray available commercially for hassle-free cleaning. It is good to cover the top of the condenser unit in the winter months with a piece of plastic or plywood to keep debris and other materials falling in. Ensure not to cover it completely since moisture can form inside causing corrosion. Remove any cover when your AC is running

2. Clean The Evaporator Coil

It is time to move inside to the evaporator coil door. Once you take out a few screws, use the soft brush to dust the coil and then spray the coil with no-rinse coil cleaner available in any home improvement stores. The spray gets foamed up and drips into the drain pan. Clear out the drain pan with hot water, soap and a combination of a little bleach. Then pour a cup of 50% water and 50% bleach down the drain. They ensure that the drain is clear for the long-term, you can place a drain pan tablet that is commercially available in the pan. This will prevent future algae growth.

3. Replace The Blower Filter

The filter in your AC unit should be changed at least twice a year. One before the heating season commences and on before the cooling season begins. If you live in an area where dust accumulates more than often, you might want to change it more than twice. The new filter should have the same airflow rating as the previous one. HEPA or air-purifying Air Filters can dramatically reduce the airflow in your system so be careful before you buy one. The filter enclosure is placed at the most recognisable part of the system where the fresh air duct enters the unit. Simply remove the old filter and replace it with the new one matching the direction of the air-flow arrows to the arrows on the unit. Close and latch the door
